7 mOhm Rds(on) — the conduction loss floor for a 9.5 A high-side switch
The Infineon BTS50080-1TMC is a single-channel PROFET high-side power switch rated for 9.5 A continuous output with a typical on-resistance of 7 mOhm. That Rds(on) figure sets the conduction loss at full load — at 9.5 A the I²R dissipation is about 0.63 W, which the TO-263-8 / D²Pak-7 package must sink through the exposed tab. The 5.5 V to 38 V load voltage range covers both 12 V and 24 V automotive and industrial bus rails without needing a separate Vcc supply — the device is self-powered from the load side.
Fault protection set — what it saves on the BOM
This part integrates current limiting (fixed threshold), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage clamp, short-circuit protection, and under-voltage lockout. That list replaces at least a half-dozen discrete components — sense resistor, comparator, zener, fuse, TVS — and simplifies the layout. The non-inverting input type and 1:1 input-to-output ratio mean a logic-level PWM or enable signal directly controls the load without level shifting.
The TO-263-8 / D²Pak-7 package (7 leads plus tab) is a surface-mount D²Pak with an exposed copper pad on the bottom — the PCB copper area under that tab sets the thermal resistance. A 2 oz copper pour of at least 6 cm² is typical to keep the junction below 125°C at 9.5 A continuous.
