Product details

Single-channel high-side switch with built-in diagnostics

The Infineon BTS50080-1TMB is a PROFET series high-side power switch in a TO-220-7 through-hole package. It integrates a single N-channel MOSFET with a typical Rds(on) of 9.5 mOhm, rated to deliver 9.5 A continuous output across a 5.5 V to 38 V load supply range. This is a self-contained protected switch — no external driver or charge pump needed because the supply voltage (Vcc/Vdd) is not required; the device is self-powered from the load rail.

Fault protection suite — what each flag covers

The BTS50080-1TMB packs six fault protections: current limiting (fixed), open load detection, over-temperature shutdown, over-voltage clamp, short-circuit protection, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO). That list covers the failure modes that kill an unprotected MOSFET — a shorted load, a stalled motor, a supply surge, or a thermal runaway.

At 9.5 A output, the conduction loss is I² × R = 9.5² × 0.0095 ≈ 0.86 W. In the TO-220-7 package with a copper pad on the tab, that keeps the junction rise manageable even at 150°C ambient. The 150°C TJ rating means this part lives in an engine bay or a motor-drive cabinet without derating.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Rds(on) of the BTS50080-1TMB?

The typical Rds(on) is 9.5 mOhm. That is the on-resistance at 25°C junction; expect it to increase with temperature per the normalised curve in the datasheet.
