7 mOhm high-side switch — the conduction loss floor
The Infineon BTS500701TMAATMA1 is a single-channel PROFET high-side power switch rated for 12 A continuous output with a typical on-resistance of 7 mOhm. That Rds(on) sets the conduction loss at full load — at 12 A and 25°C junction, expect about 1 W dissipation just from the channel, before any fault-handling overhead. The load supply range spans 5.5 V to 30 V, covering nominal 12 V and 24 V automotive and industrial battery rails.
Fault protection set and thermal limits
This part integrates fixed current limiting, open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping — the full PROFET protection suite that keeps the load and wiring safe without external sense resistors or comparators.
Package and mounting
Housed in a TO-263-8 / D²Pak (7 leads plus tab), the exposed metal tab is the main thermal path to the board copper. The tab solder joint carries the bulk of the heat and current — a good thermal pad with via stitching under the tab keeps the junction below the 150°C ceiling. The package is reworkable with hot air if you preheat the board from the bottom; the tab's large thermal mass means the hot-air nozzle needs to dwell longer than on a small QFN.
Obsolete — sourcing and replacement path
This part carries an obsolete product status. If you are qualifying a replacement, look for a PROFET with matching 7 mOhm Rds(on), 12 A output, the same fault protection set, and the same TO-263-8 footprint. The load voltage range and the 1:1 input-to-output ratio are the pin-compatibility gate.
