What this high-side switch does in the assembly
The Infineon BTS50060-1TEA is a single-channel P-channel high-side power switch in a PG-TO252-5-3 package, rated for load voltages from 6 V to 19 V and delivering up to 16.5 A continuous output. Its typical Rds(on) of 6.8 mOhm keeps conduction losses low, which matters when the switch is carrying the full load current in a tight thermal budget. The switch includes an Auto Restart feature after an over-temperature fault, making it useful for loads that can tolerate a brief power cycle — like lamp or motor loads in automotive body electronics.
At 6.8 mOhm typical on-resistance, the BTS50060-1TEA dissipates roughly 1.8 W at 16.5 A (I²R). That heat has to go somewhere — the PG-TO252-5-3 package relies on the PCB copper area under the tab to keep the junction below the 150 °C limit. The 16.5 A maximum output is a pulsed rating; continuous current should be derated based on ambient temperature and board thermal resistance. For a 12 V automotive rail, this switch comfortably handles a 10 A continuous load with adequate copper.
