High-side switch for 12 V/24 V vehicle power distribution
The Infineon BTS50015-1TMA is a single-channel, N-channel high-side power switch in a TO-220-7 formed-leads package (PG-TO220-7-232). It switches loads up to 33 A continuous from a supply rail of 5.5 V to 28 V.
Output rating and load budget
Rated at 33 A maximum continuous output, this switch can drive heavy resistive, inductive, or lamp loads — think headlamp clusters, HVAC blower motors, or auxiliary power distribution modules. The 28 V load supply ceiling accommodates the nominal 24 V truck bus plus the typical 32 V load-dump clamp. Because it is a high-side configuration with a 1:1 input-to-output ratio, the switch sits between the battery and the load — no external charge pump needed. The input is On/Off logic with a non-inverting polarity, driven directly by a microcontroller GPIO or a relay driver.
On-chip fault handling
Three integrated fault protections — current limiting (fixed), over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamp — eliminate the need for external sense resistors, comparators, or TVS diodes on the switch output. The slew-rate controlled turn-on reduces EMI and inrush current into capacitive loads.
Package and mounting note
The TO-220-7 formed-leads package (PG-TO220-7-232) is a through-hole part with a metal tab for heatsinking. For 33 A continuous current, the tab must be bolted to a heatsink or chassis ground — the junction-to-case thermal path is the limiting factor, not the silicon. The formed leads are bent for vertical PCB mounting; the tab hole pattern matches standard TO-220 hardware.
Lifecycle and supply
It is a current-production part from Infineon, available through independent distribution.
