PROFET high-side switch for 12 V / 24 V loads
The Infineon BTS442E2BKSA1 is a single-channel high-side power switch from the PROFET® family, designed to drive resistive, inductive, and lamp loads in automotive and industrial environments. 15 mOhm Rds(on) — conduction loss and thermal budget
At 17 A, the 15 mOhm typical Rds(on) produces about 4.3 W of conduction loss at 25°C junction. The TO-220-5 package with its exposed metal tab can dissipate this into a heatsink, but the junction temperature must stay within the -40°C to 150°C operating range. Derate the continuous current above 25°C ambient per the datasheet curve; the 150°C ceiling is the absolute limit, not a normal operating target.
Fault protection set reduces external circuitry
The BTS442E2BKSA1 integrates current limiting (fixed threshold), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping. The Status Flag output signals fault conditions to the microcontroller. These protections eliminate the need for a separate sense resistor, comparator, or discrete clamp diode in many automotive load-switching applications.
