The Infineon BTS426L1E3062A is a single-channel PROFET high-side power switch in a TO-263-5 (D²Pak) package. Its 50 mOhm typical Rds(on) at 25°C sets the conduction loss floor: at 7A continuous output, that's about 2.5W dissipation before you even account for the package's thermal resistance to the board. The switch handles a load voltage range of 5V to 34V and needs no external Vcc supply — the gate drive is self-biased from the load pin. That simplifies the BOM for a 12V or 24V automotive rail.
Fault protection — what the scorch mark won't show
This part packs eight fault protections: current limiting (fixed), open-load detect, over-temperature, over-voltage, reverse battery, reverse current, short-circuit, and UVLO. When a lamp filament shorts or a solenoid coil welds, the switch shuts itself off and auto-restarts once the fault clears — no external watchdog needed. The slew-rate controlled turn-on reduces EMI from inrush currents on capacitive loads like incandescent bulbs or motor start caps. The logic-level input is non-inverting, so a high on the IN pin turns the output on.
150°C junction — engine-bay and industrial thermal cycling
The TO-263-5 package with its exposed tab lets you pull heat into a PCB copper pour or an external heatsink.
