What this PROFET switch delivers for the load circuit
The Infineon BTS410E2E3043NKSA1 is a single-channel high-side power switch from the PROFET® family, designed to drive resistive, inductive, and lamp loads in 12 V and 24 V automotive and industrial systems. It integrates an N-channel MOSFET with a 190 mOhm typical Rds(on) and delivers up to 1.6 A continuous output current over a load supply range of 4.7 V to 42 V. Built-in fault protection — current limiting (fixed), open-load detection, over-temperature shutdown, and over-voltage clamping — reduces the need for external clamp diodes or sense resistors.
At 1.6 A and 190 mOhm, the conduction loss is I²R ≈ 0.49 W at 25°C junction. The TO-220-5 through-hole package with a copper pad on the tab can dissipate that in free air, but at 150°C junction the Rds(on) roughly doubles — budget closer to 1 W loss at temperature. The 42 V load maximum gives headroom for 24 V nominal systems with load-dump transients, though the part itself clamps over-voltage. The 1:1 input-to-output ratio and On/Off interface simplify the gate drive: no external charge pump or level shifter is needed because the logic-level input is non-inverting and the supply voltage Vcc is not required — the switch is self-biased from the load supply. Status flag output feeds a microcontroller GPIO for diagnostic readback.
