54 V rail protection in a DO-214AB footprint
The SMCJ54CA-13: Its 87.1 V maximum clamping voltage at 17.2 A peak pulse current (10/1000 µs waveform) means a 1.5 kW surge gets shunted before it reaches the downstream silicon — the clamping figure is the one that matters for the voltage rating of the protected ICs.
Clamping envelope and pulse handling
The reverse standoff voltage of 54 V is the maximum DC or AC peak voltage the TVS can sit across without conducting appreciable leakage — this is the rail voltage it protects. Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 60 V, and clamping is guaranteed at 87.1 V maximum with a 17.2 A peak pulse current. The single bidirectional channel clamps both polarities, so one part covers a floating differential pair or an AC-coupled signal line.
Active lifecycle, no last-time-buy pressure
For a spare-parts storeroom, the DO-214AB package is moisture sensitivity level 1 (per JEDEC) — no dry-bake required before reflow, and reels store indefinitely in a standard ESD cabinet. The Tape & Reel packaging (Cut Tape option also available) feeds directly into pick-and-place without reel changeovers.
