Protection window and clamping performance
The SMCJ17CAQ-13-F: The 17V reverse standoff voltage means the device stays transparent to the protected line under normal operating conditions up to that DC level, only engaging when a surge exceeds the minimum breakdown voltage of 18.9V. Bidirectional clamping covers both positive and negative polarity surges from a single component — useful on AC signal lines, data pairs, or power rails where the polarity of the transient is unpredictable. A single device replaces two unidirectional TVS diodes back-to-back, saving board area and BOM line count.
Automotive-grade reliability and operating range
AEC-Q101 qualification subjects this part to the automotive-grade stress tests: high-temperature reverse bias, temperature cycling, and ESD robustness screening. The operating junction temperature range spans -55°C to 150°C, covering under-hood engine bay conditions, industrial ovens, and outdoor telecom enclosures where ambient temperature can exceed 85°C.
