PNP power transistor for medium-current switching
The DXT2012P5-13 is a 60 V, 5.5 A PNP transistor in the PowerDI™ 5 package, rated for 3.2 W continuous dissipation. The 60 V collector-emitter breakdown gives headroom on a 48 V or 24 V rail; the 5.5 A continuous collector current handles moderate solenoid, relay, or motor-brake loads without paralleling. DC current gain is specified at 100 minimum at 2 A, 1 V — this is the operating point that matters for a saturated switch. At 2 A collector current, a base drive of 20 mA guarantees the transistor is in hard saturation, keeping Vce(sat) at 250 mV typical.
Saturation voltage and thermal margin
Vce(sat) is 250 mV maximum at 500 mA base current and 5 A collector current. That 250 mV drop at 5 A means 1.25 W conduction loss — well inside the 3.2 W package rating, but the junction temperature at 85 °C ambient leaves about 50 °C margin before the 150 °C absolute maximum is reached. The 120 MHz transition frequency indicates the device can switch at moderate PWM frequencies — useful for a 20 kHz or 50 kHz switching regulator, though the 5.5 A current rating is the limiting factor for inductive loads, not the Ft.
PowerDI™ 5 is a 5-pin surface-mount package with an exposed pad on the bottom. Store the reels in a dry cabinet below 30 °C / 60 % RH; the package is MSL 1 by default but the reel label should be checked for moisture sensitivity.
The 150 °C TJ ceiling is the absolute maximum; continuous operation at 125 °C junction is the practical design target for reliability.
