Single-cell Li-Ion charger with programmable current
The MAX8814ETA+T is a single-cell Lithium Ion battery charger IC from Analog Devices, designed for constant-current / constant-voltage (CC/CV) charging of a 4.2 V battery pack. The charge current is programmable up to 656 mA maximum, and the IC includes over-voltage fault protection to guard the battery and the charging circuit against supply transients.
Package and temperature range
Housed in an 8-WFDFN Exposed Pad package (8-TDFN-EP, 2x2 mm), surface-mount assembly requires a thermal pad connection on the PCB to dissipate heat from the charging pass element.
Supply voltage and protection
Maximum supply voltage is 6.8 V, which means the charger can run from a standard 5 V USB bus or a regulated 5 V rail with headroom for the internal linear regulator. The over-voltage protection block disconnects the battery if the input exceeds a safe threshold, preventing damage to the cell and the downstream load.
