What this filter does on your board
The MAX7403CPA+ is an 8th-order elliptic low-pass switched-capacitor filter with a 10 kHz cutoff frequency. The elliptic topology provides a steep roll-off.
Where you'd use it
This is the kind of filter you reach for when cleaning up an analog sensor signal before an ADC, or as a reconstruction filter after a DAC in a 5V system. The 10 kHz cutoff makes it a fit for audio-band anti-aliasing, vibration monitoring, or any low-frequency measurement channel where you need to reject high-frequency switching noise or aliases. The through-hole 8-DIP package is repair-bench friendly — you can socket it, swap it, and probe around it without fighting a fine-pitch footprint.
