What this part does on a board
The MAX6495ATT+T is an overvoltage protection controller from Analog Devices, designed to sit between a DC supply and downstream circuitry. When the input rail rises above a preset threshold, it drives an external n-channel MOSFET to disconnect the load — fast enough to save a 12V automotive ECU from a load-dump transient or a miswired jump start.
Automotive-grade protection — what the rating means for the BOM
This part is specified for automotive applications. On a 12V nominal rail, the controller's job is to react before the downstream DC/DC or linear regulator sees a surge that exceeds its absolute maximum.
