RS-232 link in a 16-SOIC footprint
The MAX202ECWE+T: Housed in a 16-SOIC wide-body package (0.295", 7.50mm width), it is a surface-mount part suited for PCB designs where board space is at a premium but a reliable RS-232 port is needed.
At 120 kbps, the part handles legacy RS-232 signalling for industrial terminals, point-of-sale equipment, and instrumentation — enough for most asynchronous serial links, though not for high-speed protocols like RS-485 at megabit rates. Receiver hysteresis of 500 mV provides noise immunity on the incoming line, reducing false triggering on long cable runs or in electrically noisy environments.
