Programmable silicon oscillator for clock generation
The LTC6902CMS#TRPBF is a silicon oscillator from Analog Devices that generates a clock output from 100kHz to 20MHz without requiring an external crystal or resonator — the frequency is set by a single external resistor. It operates from a 2.7V to 5.5V supply rail, drawing 2.5 mA typical supply current, making it suitable for both 3.3V and 5V logic systems in power-conscious designs.
Frequency programming and supply flexibility
The 100kHz to 20MHz span is set by one resistor to ground — no crystal, no ceramic resonator, no external load capacitors. This cuts BOM count and board area compared to a crystal-based oscillator. The 2.7V to 5.5V supply range means the same part works on a 3.3V FPGA bank or a 5V microcontroller rail without a separate regulator for the oscillator. At 2.5 mA supply current, the LTC6902 adds less than 10 mW to the power budget at 3.3V — negligible in a system drawing hundreds of milliamps.
