Board-level temperature supervision with fixed thresholds
The LTC2996CDD#PBF is a fixed-threshold temperature monitor from Analog Devices that asserts separate open-drain outputs when the sensed temperature crosses -20°C or +70°C. This makes it a drop-in guard for thermal runaway or cold-start lockout on a PCB — no programming, no external resistor dividers to set the trip point. Accuracy is specified at ±2°C, which is tight enough for equipment-level thermal protection — a server PSU or battery-charger board that must flag overtemperature before the silicon hits its abs-max junction rating.
Supply rails and output drive
The open-drain outputs sink 0.2 mA, enough to pull a microcontroller GPIO low through a 10 kΩ pull-up. Both an active-high and active-low output are available — /OverTemp and /UnderTemp — so the same part can drive a reset line (active-low) or light an indicator (active-high) without an external inverter.
