Hermetic analog switch for harsh-environment signal routing
The Maxim Integrated IH5140MJE is a single-pole, single-throw (SPST) analog switch in a hermetic 16-CERDIP package, built for signal routing in environments where commercial plastic parts won't survive. Typical applications include avionics, satellite telemetry, downhole instrumentation, and military-grade test equipment where sealed ceramic packaging and wide thermal margin are non-negotiable.
75 Ohm on-resistance and 60 pF channel capacitance
The 75 Ohm max on-resistance is moderate — adequate for routing audio, low-frequency analog signals, or digital control lines, but not for precision low-level analog paths where a sub-10 Ohm switch would be needed. The 60 pF off-channel capacitance (CS(off), CD(off)) adds a capacitive load to the signal line; at higher frequencies this will attenuate the signal, so keep the switched bandwidth below a few hundred kilohertz unless you budget for the roll-off. The -60 dB crosstalk at 100 kHz is a solid figure for a ceramic-package switch, indicating good channel isolation in multiplexed or sample-and-hold circuits.
800 ns / 600 ns switching — fast enough for relay replacement
With a maximum turn-on time of 800 ns and turn-off of 600 ns, this switch is an order of magnitude faster than an electromechanical relay, making it suitable for signal multiplexing, gain-switching in op-amp circuits, or channel selection in data-acquisition front ends. The 100 nA max off-leakage current (IS(off)) is low enough that it won't corrupt a high-impedance analog node — a 10 MOhm source impedance sees only 1 mV of error from leakage.
Buyers should verify RoHS exemption applicability for their jurisdiction; the non-compliant status is typical for military/aerospace ceramic DIPs.
