4A hot-swap controller with programmable protection
The DS4560S-AR+ is a single-channel hot swap controller from Analog Devices, designed to manage inrush current and protect downstream circuitry during board insertion into a live backplane. Its 4A maximum output current and 9V to 13.2V supply range cover common intermediate bus rails in telecom and datacom equipment. Three programmable features — circuit breaker threshold, current limit, and output slew rate — let you tune the response to match the load capacitance and fault tolerance of the powered device. The circuit breaker trips on overcurrent; the current limit clamps the output during a fault; the slew rate controls how fast the output voltage rises, limiting the charging current into bulk capacitors.
Rated for -40°C to 135°C operating temperature, the DS4560S-AR+ suits environments with wide thermal swings — outdoor base stations, industrial enclosures, or engine-bay-adjacent electronics. The 135°C ceiling gives headroom above the standard 125°C industrial limit. The 1.1 mA supply current is the controller's own draw — the load current is separate and set by the external load.
