The ADUM1280BRZ is a 2-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler family, built on magnetic coupling technology. It delivers 25 Mbps per channel with a 3000 Vrms isolation rating, making it a fit for breaking ground loops and providing galvanic isolation in industrial fieldbus interfaces, motor-drive control signals, and isolated SPI or UART links.
At 25 Mbps the ADUM1280BRZ handles most industrial serial protocols — SPI up to 25 MHz clock, UART at standard baud rates, and CAN at 1 Mbps with margin. The 35 ns max propagation delay (tpLH / tpHL) and 3 ns pulse-width distortion keep the timing budget tight enough for a 25 MHz SPI bus without cycle stretching. If your design runs a higher-speed parallel bus or a 50+ Mbps serial link, you will need a faster isolator; for the majority of sensor and actuator interfaces this is the right speed tier.
3000 Vrms isolation and 25 kV/µs CMTI — the safety and noise margins
The 3000 Vrms isolation rating qualifies the part for reinforced insulation in mains-connected industrial equipment per IEC 60747-5-5. The 25 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) is the spec that matters when the isolator sits on a motor-drive or inverter phase leg: fast-switching IGBT edges can inject several kV/µs across the barrier, and if the isolator's CMTI is too low, data errors appear. 25 kV/µs is a solid margin for most 600 V and 1200 V inverter designs.
Sourcing and lifecycle
For dual-sourcing or a cost-optimized alternate, the ADUM1200BRZ is a pin-compatible 2-channel unidirectional isolator but at a lower data rate (10 Mbps) and lower isolation (2500 Vrms) — check whether the reduced margin fits your application before substituting.
