Two-channel magnetic isolator — 3000 Vrms barrier for industrial signal isolation
The ADUM121N0BRZ-RL7 is a 2-channel, unidirectional digital isolator from Analog Devices' iCoupler family, built around magnetic coupling technology. It provides 3000 Vrms isolation between input and output sides in an 8-SOIC package, with a data rate of 150 Mbps and propagation delay of 13 ns max per channel. Typical applications include industrial fieldbus interfaces, isolated SPI/UART links, motor-drive control signal isolation, and medical equipment where galvanic isolation is required for safety.
Package and mounting
Common-mode transient immunity of 75 kV/µs minimum is the headline robustness spec. In a motor-drive or inverter environment where 600 V–1200 V switching nodes create fast common-mode voltage swings across the isolation barrier, a CMTI below 25 kV/µs can cause data corruption or latch-up. The 75 kV/µs rating here gives comfortable margin for most industrial and automotive applications. The 13 ns propagation delay (both directions) and 3 ns pulse-width distortion limit the timing skew between channels, which matters when the isolator carries a clock-and-data pair or a differential signal pair. Rise/fall times of 2.5 ns typical keep the edges clean at 150 Mbps without excessive EMI.
Supply flexibility and unidirectional channel mapping
The channel configuration is 1/1 (one channel from Side 1 to Side 2, one from Side 2 to Side 1), unidirectional. This suits a typical TX/RX pair for UART or SPI (with separate clock and data lines). No isolated power is provided on-chip — the ADUM121N0BRZ-RL7 is a signal isolator only; the buyer must supply isolated power rails separately via an isolated DC-DC converter or a separate power-isolation device.
Temperature grade and environment
The 125°C junction rating also provides thermal headroom when the part is dissipating near its maximum on a hot PCB.
Lifecycle and compliance
It is ROHS3 compliant, with no exemptions for lead or other restricted substances. The part is available in Tape & Reel (RL7 suffix) and Cut Tape options, which matches the standard procurement format for automated assembly lines. For production programs, the Active status means no last-time-buy planning is required for the foreseeable future.
