What this PLL synthesizer does at 3 GHz
The ADF4252BCPZ-R7 is a dual-mode PLL clock/frequency synthesizer covering both fractional-N and integer-N architectures, with a maximum operating frequency of 3 GHz. That 3 GHz ceiling places it in the RF/IF synthesizer class for wireless infrastructure, test equipment, and microwave backhaul — not a baseband clock chip. It accepts CMOS or TTL reference inputs and delivers a clock output. The 3:2 input-to-output ratio means three reference inputs feed two synthesizer channels, which is useful for multi-band or diversity receiver schemes where one PLL locks to a shared reference.
Supply rails and temperature envelope
The 24-LFCSP-WQ (4x4) package has an exposed pad that must be soldered to a ground plane for thermal and electrical performance. The 0.5 mm pitch LFCSP demands careful stencil design and a controlled reflow profile — not a hand-solder part for prototype rework.
