Dual 12-bit DAC in 24-SOIC — what the ratings mean for a BOM line
The AD7247ABRZ is a dual 12-bit voltage-output DAC from the DACPORT® series, packing two complete R-2R conversion channels in a single 24-SOIC package. That dual-channel count means one IC replaces two single DACs on the board — useful when a control loop needs simultaneous analog outputs from one digital interface. Settling time is 8 µs to ±0.5 LSB, which sets the update rate ceiling: a PLC analog output module updating 16 channels in sequence needs each DAC to settle before the next channel's data latches in. The parallel data interface writes the full 12-bit word in one bus cycle — no serial clock overhead, so the throughput bottleneck is the settling time, not the bus speed.
Supply rails and temperature grade — the deployment envelope
That simplifies the power tree in an industrial control board where ±15 V analog rails already exist. The 24-SOIC wide-body footprint (7.50 mm width) is a standard layout — the same pad pattern serves the single-channel AD7248AARZ if a BOM revision drops the second channel. INL is ±0.5 LSB max, DNL ±0.9 LSB max — monotonic over temperature, meaning the output never steps backward when the digital code increments. That matters for closed-loop servo positioning: a non-monotonic DAC can make a PID controller hunt.
