180V standoff TVS Zener in the 5.0SMDJ series
The 5.0SMDJ180A/TR13 is a unidirectional Zener-based transient voltage suppressor in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, rated for surface-mount assembly. It sits in YAGEO's 5.0SMDJ series — a 5 kW peak-pulse family used across industrial power, communications, and consumer electronics protection rails. The reverse standoff of 180 V sets the continuous working voltage the diode clamps around; the minimum breakdown of 201 V is where conduction begins.
What the clamping spec means for protection
At a 10/1000 µs surge current of 17.1 A, the clamping voltage tops out at 292 V — that is the peak the downstream circuit sees during a transient event. The 92 V gap between standoff and clamping (292 V minus 180 V) is the let-through margin the circuit insulation and downstream components must survive. Selecting a standoff closer to the nominal rail voltage minimises that gap without exposing the diode to long-term leakage stress.
Wide junction temperature range for demanding environments
Junction temperature, not ambient, is the limit — the DO-214AB SMC package thermal resistance to the board pad sets the actual operating margin at full pulse rating. Thermal profiling during reflow must keep peak TJ below 150°C per the datasheet limits.
Active production — quoted to order
YAGEO lists the 5.0SMDJ180A/TR13 as Active.
