Surge protection for 70V DC rails
The YAGEO 1.5KE82A/B is a 1500W unidirectional Zener TVS diode designed to clamp transients on DC power rails with a nominal working voltage up to 70.1V. Its 77.9V minimum breakdown voltage ensures the device stays off during normal operation, while the 113V maximum clamping voltage at 13.5A peak pulse current (10/1000µs waveform) limits the voltage seen by downstream components during a surge event.
What the ratings mean for your protection design
A 48V battery bus or a 60V nominal supply with transients fits within this margin. The 77.9V breakdown voltage (minimum) is the threshold where the diode starts to avalanche. A downstream DC-DC converter with a 100V absolute maximum input rating would survive this clamp level with margin. Operating from -55°C to 150°C junction temperature, this diode suits outdoor telecom enclosures, engine-bay electronics, and industrial control cabinets where ambient temperatures vary widely.
Package and board integration
Housed in a DO-201AA (DO-27) axial-lead package, the 1.5KE82A/B mounts through-hole on a PCB. The DO-201 footprint is standard for 1.5kW TVS diodes — the axial leads carry the surge current into the die without trace heating, and the body stands off from the board for convection cooling. The unidirectional configuration means the cathode band identifies the anode-to-ground orientation. For bidirectional protection on AC lines or bipolar supplies, use the 'B' suffix variant of the same 1.5KE82 part number.
