Gen5 FRED Pt in a parallel SOT-227
The VS-U5FH240FA120 is a Vishay FRED Pt® fifth-generation fast recovery diode in a SOT-227 miniBLOC package, housing two independent 120 A legs rated at 1200 V DC reverse each. The 98 ns typical reverse recovery time (trr) places it in the fast recovery class (≤500 ns, >200 mA Io), making it a candidate for hard-switching topologies where turn-off losses matter.
The 1200 V DC reverse voltage (Vr) gives headroom for 400 VAC and 480 VAC rail rectification with derating. The 98 ns trr is specified under typical conditions — actual recovery charge and softness factor depend on the di/dt and junction temperature at turn-off, so the effective switching loss in a 20–50 kHz PFC or inverter stage should be calculated from the datasheet curves, not the single trr number.
Junction temperature and mounting
The SOT-227 (miniBLOC) package is a chassis-mount, isolated-base module — it bolts directly to a heatsink with two M4 screws, and the baseplate is electrically isolated, so no insulating pad is needed. This package is common in high-power rectifier and IGBT snubber assemblies where the module shares a common heatsink with other devices.
Vishay lists the VS-U5FH240FA120 as active in their current portfolio. For a design-in, the Gen5 FRED Pt platform has a known parametric roadmap — the 1200 V / 120 A combination is a standard block in the series, so second-source risk is low.
