2.5 A peak output drives IGBT and MOSFET gates directly
The VOD3120AG-V is a single-channel optical-coupled gate driver from Vishay, delivering 2.5 A peak output current — enough to drive medium-power IGBTs and MOSFETs without an external buffer stage. The 5300 Vrms isolation rating meets the reinforced insulation requirements for motor-drive and inverter applications per IEC 61800-5-1. Rise and fall times are 35 ns typical, keeping switching losses low in hard-switched topologies.
35 kV/µs CMTI and 70 ns pulse-width distortion
Common-mode transient immunity is a minimum 35 kV/µs — this prevents false gate signals when the high-side switch dV/dt exceeds 10 kV/µs, a common condition in SiC and fast IGBT half-bridges. Pulse-width distortion is capped at 70 ns max, which keeps dead-time skew within a safe margin for 20–100 kHz switching frequencies. Propagation delay is 500 ns max, consistent across both rising and falling edges.
Active production, through-hole 8-DIP package
The supply voltage range is 15 V to 30 V, covering standard gate-drive rails. The forward LED requires 1.37 V typical at up to 20 mA. Agency approvals include CQC, cUL, UL, and VDE, simplifying global equipment certification.
Industrial temperature range and layout notes
Operating temperature spans -40°C to 105°C, covering outdoor telecom cabinets, factory-floor drives, and engine-bay electronics. The 8-DIP through-hole package requires a 0.100-inch pitch PCB layout with 0.040-inch diameter plated through-holes — the 10.16 mm body width fits standard DIP sockets or direct solder. The optical coupling technology provides galvanic isolation between the input LED and output detector, eliminating ground loops in noisy industrial environments.
