Product details

The Vishay VOD223T is a 2-channel Darlington-output optocoupler in a surface-mount 8-SOIC package. It provides 4000Vrms isolation between a DC input and a 30V-rated Darlington output per channel.

Switching speed and saturation — design-in notes

Turn-on time is 15 µs typical, turn-off 30 µs minimum — this is a Darlington, so switching is slower than a phototransistor. Expect propagation delays in the tens of microseconds; not a part for high-speed isolation (CAN, SPI), but fine for 10 kHz PWM or status feedback. The 1V Vce saturation at the output means the collector-emitter drop is low enough to interface with 3.3 V logic without a level shifter, as long as the pull-up resistor is sized correctly for the 30V output maximum.

Temperature range and package fit

The 8-SOIC footprint (3.90 mm width) is a standard narrow-body SOIC; no exotic pad pattern needed. The Darlington output means the CTR stays high over temperature compared to a standard phototransistor, which loses gain as the junction warms.

Lifecycle and compliance

Listed as Active (current production) and ROHS3 compliant.
