Isolation barrier that holds at 5300Vrms
The VO617A-9X016 provides a guaranteed 5300Vrms isolation barrier — a rating that covers reinforced isolation for mains-referenced circuits in industrial power supplies, motor drives, and PLC I/O modules. That voltage class means the optocoupler can withstand the transient overvoltages typical on 230/400VAC lines without breakdown, assuming proper creepage on the PCB.
CTR range: 200–400% at 5mA forward current
The current transfer ratio is binned from 200% minimum to 400% maximum at If=5mA. A 200% floor means the output transistor can deliver at least 10mA collector current from a 5mA LED drive — enough to saturate a logic input or drive a low-power relay coil. The 400% ceiling caps the gain so the output does not saturate too deeply, which would slow turn-off (turn-off time typ 2.3µs,). For designs needing tighter CTR tolerance, the standard VO617A (non-9X016) bin offers a narrower spread; this wider bin suits applications where the LED current can be trimmed or where temperature drift is the dominant error.
Active production, through-hole package
Vishay lists the VO617A-9X016 as Active and ROHS3 compliant. The 4-DIP (0.400-inch, 10.16mm) package is a standard through-hole footprint that mates with 0.100-inch pitch sockets or wave-solder pads. Sourced to order against your BOM quantity; confirm current availability and pricing at quote time.
Temperature grade and environment
Rated for -55°C to 110°C ambient, this optocoupler fits outdoor telecom cabinets, engine-bay electronics, and industrial enclosures where commercial-grade parts (0–70°C) would fail. The 80V maximum output voltage and 50mA continuous output current handle 24V logic buses and low-side switching of small solenoids.
