Single-channel transistor optocoupler with 5.3 kV isolation
The VO617A-7X017T from Vishay is a single-channel, DC-input, transistor-output optocoupler in a 4-SMD Gull Wing package. It provides 5300Vrms isolation between input and output, making it suitable for isolating logic signals, driving relays, or breaking ground loops in industrial and telecom equipment. The device operates over -55°C to 110°C, covering industrial and extended-temperature environments.
The current transfer ratio (CTR) is specified at 80% minimum to 160% maximum, both measured at 5 mA forward current. This narrow window simplifies LED drive design: a 5 mA input guarantees the output transistor will sink between 4 mA and 8 mA (at rated Vce), which is enough to drive a logic input or a small relay coil through a series resistor. Typical turn-on time is 3 µs, turn-off 2.3 µs, with rise and fall times of 2 µs each — fast enough for 115.2 kbps serial isolation or PWM signals up to a few tens of kHz.
