Galvanic isolation for industrial and power-control boards
The Vishay VO615A-4X001 is a single-channel optocoupler with a phototransistor output, rated for 5000Vrms isolation between input and output. It comes in a 4-DIP through-hole package (0.300", 7.62mm pitch) — the standard footprint for socketed or hand-soldered isolation stages in motor drives, PLC I/O modules, and switched-mode power supply feedback loops. The DC input side drives an IR LED (typical forward voltage 1.43V, max 60mA continuous), and the output transistor can switch up to 70V at 50mA per channel.
The current transfer ratio is specified at 160% minimum and 320% maximum, both measured at 10mA forward current.
Temperature range and storage handling
The through-hole DIP package is MSL 1 (no moisture sensitivity), so no bake is needed before reflow or wave soldering — store the tubes in a dry area and they are ready to load.
Switching speed for low-frequency isolation
Rise and fall times are 3µs and 4.7µs typical; turn-on and turn-off times are 6µs and 5µs typical. That places this optocoupler in the low-to-moderate speed class — fine for 50/60 Hz mains zero-cross detection, relay driver isolation, or DC bus voltage sensing where the signal bandwidth stays under a few kilohertz. For higher-speed serial interfaces (SPI, I²C, CAN), you would step to a digital isolator or a faster optocoupler family.
