Isolation and signal transfer
The SFH6206-3X001T: Rated for 5300 Vrms isolation, this part provides galvanic separation between input and output circuits in a 4-SMD gull-wing package. The transistor output handles up to 70 V at 50 mA continuous, with a Vce saturation of 400 mV max — the drop across the output when fully on, which sets the power dissipation in the load circuit. Current transfer ratio (CTR) spans 100% to 320% at 10 mA forward current, giving a 3.2:1 gain margin for the LED drive — enough headroom to maintain logic-level output across LED aging and temperature drift. AC or DC input type means the internal LED can be driven from either polarity or a bipolar signal — the part rectifies internally, so a single opto handles both half-cycles of an AC line without an external bridge.
Switching speed and timing budget
Rise and fall times are 2 µs typical each; turn-on is 3 µs, turn-off 2.3 µs. This sets a practical data rate ceiling around 100 kbit/s for a clean output eye — above that the pulse width distortion eats into the receiver setup time. The 1.25 V typical forward drop at 10 mA means the LED drive rail needs at least 1.5 V headroom above that to maintain the rated CTR across temperature.
Operating from -55°C to 100°C, it covers industrial and most automotive under-hood environments — the 100°C ceiling is the junction limit, so derate the output current if ambient exceeds 85°C. Surface-mount in a 4-SMD gull-wing footprint; the supplier device package is 4-SMD. The gull-wing leads provide a visible solder joint for inspection and some compliance for board flex.
