5300 Vrms isolation in a 4-DIP through-hole package
The Vishay SFH617A-2X016 is a single-channel phototransistor optocoupler in a 4-DIP through-hole package, rated for 5300 Vrms isolation between input and output. That isolation voltage qualifies it for reinforced-insulation applications in industrial power supplies, motor drives, and medical equipment where a galvanic barrier is required between the control side and the high-voltage domain. The DC input side drives an IR LED with a typical forward voltage of 1.35 V and a maximum continuous forward current of 60 mA.
CTR bin -2: 63% to 125% at 10 mA forward current
The -2 CTR bin guarantees a minimum current transfer ratio of 63% and a maximum of 125%, both measured at 10 mA forward current. This mid-range bin is the most commonly specified for general-purpose logic-level isolation and relay drive, where the LED current budget and output saturation margin are balanced. The 400 mV maximum Vce saturation at the rated output current keeps the output drop low enough to drive a 5 V logic input directly.
Switching speed and temperature range
Typical rise and fall times are 2 µs each, with turn-on time of 3 µs and turn-off time of 2.3 µs. That places it in the slow-to-moderate speed class — fine for 50/60 Hz mains zero-cross detection, relay coil drive, and status feedback, but not for high-speed data or gate-drive isolation.
