5300 Vrms isolation — the safety barrier rating
The SFH610A-3X016 is a single-channel optoisolator from Vishay, rated for 5300Vrms isolation between input and output. That isolation voltage suits it for reinforced insulation in mains-connected power supplies, motor drives, and industrial PLC I/O modules where a galvanic barrier is required between the high-voltage field side and the low-voltage control logic. The output is a phototransistor with a maximum collector-emitter voltage of 70V and continuous output current of 50mA per channel. The 70V rating covers 24V and 48V industrial buses with margin; the 50mA limit is enough to drive a logic gate input or a small relay coil directly.
CTR bin 3 — 100% to 200% at 10 mA forward current
The SFH610A-3X016 guarantees a current transfer ratio between 100% and 200% at If = 10 mA. The typical turn-on time is 3 µs and turn-off time is 2.3 µs, with rise and fall times both 2 µs. This switching speed is adequate for 10–100 kHz isolated data or PWM signals, but not for high-speed digital buses like I²C or SPI.
Active production — no LTB on the horizon
Vishay lists the SFH610A-3X016 as Active. The part is ROHS3 compliant. For a legacy BOM or a new design, this means the supply channel is stable and no forced requalification is pending. The package is 4-DIP with a 0.400-inch (10.16 mm) body width, through-hole mounting, supplied in tube. The through-hole format is straightforward for hand-assembly or wave-solder; no MSL concern since the leadframe is not moisture-sensitive in the same way as a plastic SMD package.
Temperature range — -55°C to +100°C
The -55°C low end covers cold-start and outdoor telecom cabinets; the +100°C upper limit is typical for industrial enclosures without active cooling. The maximum forward current is 60 mA, and the typical forward voltage is 1.25V.
