Fast recovery in a MELF — what it buys you
The RGL41J-E3/96: The RGL41J-/96: The RGL41J-/96 is a Vishay SUPERECTIFIER® standard recovery diode rated 600 V reverse and 1 A average forward current, with a reverse recovery time of 250 ns. That 250 ns trr is the spec that separates it from a standard 1N4007-class rectifier — it lets this part switch in a 50–100 kHz PFC boost or flyback snubber where a 2 µs part would overheat the junction.
250 ns trr — thermal budget for the switching loop
At 1 A forward and 600 V blocking, the 250 ns trr sets the switching loss floor. The 1.3 V forward drop at 1 A adds conduction loss. The 15 pF junction capacitance at 4 V is low enough that the diode does not dominate the snubber design.
DO-213AB MELF — rework and assembly notes
The DO-213AB MELF (glass) package is cylindrical — it can roll on the pick-and-place nozzle if the vacuum pickup is off-centre. The metallised end caps are the anode and cathode — the cathode end is marked with a band, but the band is narrow; check polarity under magnification before reflow. The junction temperature range is -65 °C to 175 °C, and the glass body does not absorb moisture — no MSL concern, no bake-out needed before rework.
Active production — no LTB clock ticking
Vishay lists the RGL41J-/96 as Active with ROHS3 compliance.
