5300Vrms isolation and 800 V off-state — mains-rated switching
This is a single-channel optoisolator with a Triac output rated for 5300Vrms isolation and 800 V off-state voltage. The 800 V off-state gives comfortable headroom for 240V AC mains (peak ~340 V) plus common line transients, so it can switch resistive or lightly inductive AC loads directly. The 300 mA on-state current (RMS) handles small motors, solenoids, relays, and incandescent lamps within that current envelope.
No zero-crossing — phase-control flexibility
Because there is no zero-crossing circuit, the triac fires at any point in the AC cycle. This makes the IL4218-X019 suitable for phase-angle dimming or soft-start applications where you need to control the conduction angle. The trade-off is that inductive loads (transformers, fan motors) will need a snubber across the triac to manage the high dV/dt at turn-off — the 10kV/µs minimum static dV/dt rating helps, but a small RC snubber is still good practice.
Package and footprint: 6-SMD, hand-solderable
The 6-SMD package is a surface-mount gull-wing style that is straightforward to hand-solder with a fine tip or hot-air rework station — no BGA or QFN complexity. It ships in Tube, so for small-batch builds you can pull one out without opening a full reel. The 1.3 V typical forward voltage and 60 mA max LED drive current are standard for a 5 V or 3.3 V logic interface through a current-limiting resistor.

The IL4218-X019 carries approvals from BSI, CSA, cUR, FIMKO, UR, and VDE, covering North American, European, and Nordic safety standards. This simplifies compliance for equipment destined for multiple regions — no need to qualify a different optocoupler per market.
