Triac output for direct AC load switching
The IL420-X009T is a 1-channel triac-output optoisolator from Vishay, designed for switching AC loads up to 300 mA RMS (on-state current) and withstanding 600 V off-state voltage. The triac output means it can directly drive resistive or inductive AC loads like small motors, solenoids, relays, and incandescent lamps without an external triac or SCR — saving board space and BOM cost. The 35 µs turn-on time is fast enough for typical 50/60 Hz phase-control and zero-cross switching applications, though note this variant has no internal zero-crossing circuit, so the designer must manage turn-on timing externally if zero-cross switching is required.
The 5300 Vrms isolation voltage is a reinforced-grade rating suitable for safety isolation barriers in industrial power supplies, motor drives, and HVAC equipment. This level of isolation typically satisfies IEC 60950-1 / IEC 62368-1 reinforced insulation requirements for mains-connected circuits up to 300 V AC working voltage. The minimum static dV/dt of 10 kV/µs ensures the output does not false-trigger on fast voltage transients from relay-coil kickback or motor-drive switching edges — a common failure mode in noisy industrial environments. The 6-SMD package with surface-mount footprint suits automated assembly; the Tape & Reel option is the standard for high-volume pick-and-place.
Temperature range and approvals
Operating temperature from -55°C to 100°C covers cold-start down to military-spec conditions and hot-enclosure scenarios in outdoor telecom or factory-floor cabinets. The part carries CQC, CSA, cUR, and UR approvals, easing compliance for equipment sold into North American, Chinese, and global markets. The 500 µA hold current means the triac will stay latched once triggered until the load current drops below that threshold — typical for AC loads where the current crosses zero naturally each half-cycle.
Lifecycle and sourcing posture
The date-code and lot traceability are verified for authenticity — the laser-etched marking on the 6-SMD package is a clean fingerprint back to Vishay's production.
