1 kV peak reverse — what it buys you on the bulk rail
The GBPC610-E4/51: The GBPC610-/51 is a Vishay single-phase bridge rectifier rated for 1 kV peak reverse voltage and 3 A average rectified output. That 1 kV blocking capability means it comfortably handles 240 VAC mains with margin for line transients — you are not pushing the silicon near its avalanche limit on a standard 230 V line. The 3 A DC output is the continuous average, not a surge rating. For a capacitive-input filter — which is the typical load — the actual diode current pulses are higher than the DC average, so derate by 20-30% if your bulk capacitor is large and the conduction angle is narrow.
Thermal envelope and the -55 to 150 °C junction range
At 150°C junction, the 5 µA reverse leakage at 1 kV multiplies — expect roughly 10× increase per 25°C above 25°C. If your ambient runs at 85°C, budget the leakage power into the thermal calculation; it shifts the junction temperature upward and narrows the headroom to the 150°C limit.
GBPC-6 package — the through-hole standard for 3 A bridges
The GBPC-6 package is a 4-pin square through-hole format with a 10.4 mm pitch between the AC terminals and a central hole for chassis mounting. The supplier device package is GBPC6 — same footprint, same hole pattern. For a 3 A bridge, the GBPC-6 copper leads and the internal die attach handle the thermal dissipation without a heatsink at moderate ambient. If you push the full 3 A at 50°C ambient, bolt the package to a metal panel or add a clip-on heatsink — the thermal resistance to ambient is roughly 20°C/W without one.
