Package: SMC (DO-214AB) / SMB / SMA · Pin-compatible replacements with immediate Shenzhen spot stock
The SS3x series is the surface-mount Schottky of power boards and adapters - 3A devices in the SMC/SMB/SMA family, sold under a marking alphabet soup (SS310, SR310, SK310, MBRS3100) that all mean roughly the same 100V / 3A / 0.85V die class from different fabs. Two properties matter when choosing it: against the classic 1N581x through-hole family it trades a higher forward drop for far lower leakage (100uA class against milliamp-class), and its 100V rating sits at the practical top of Schottky voltage territory - it exists precisely for rails where low-voltage Schottkys ran out of margin.

The 80V Grade of the Same Ladder
Shenzhen Spot Stock (24-48h Dispatch)
Same 3A Schottky die at 80V (SS36 is the 60V grade, SS310 the 100V): the letter digits are the voltage - 6, 8, 10 for 60, 80, 100V.
VRRM 80V against 100V; forward drop improves slightly at lower voltage grades.
Branded Equivalent of the Same Spec
Shenzhen Spot Stock (24-48h Dispatch)
onsemi 100V / 3A SMC Schottky: the documented-brand version of the SS310 position, same ratings envelope (0.85V class VF, low leakage).
VRRM 100V; IO 3A; the numbers match the category.
Through-Hole Option with More Headroom
Shenzhen Spot Stock (24-48h Dispatch)
150V / 5A axial Schottky: one step up both in voltage and current for through-hole boards, with the same low-recovery Schottky behavior.
VRRM 150V; IO 5A - the through-hole answer when the SMD 100V ceiling is too close to the rail.
Marking-Code Equivalent
Shenzhen Spot Stock (24-48h Dispatch)
The SR-series marking of the same 100V / 3A Schottky class - the part number differs by fab tradition, the die class does not.
VRRM 100V; IO 3A; VF 0.85V class.
Buyer & Quality Checklist for Sourcing Alternatives
- Leakage is the reason this family exists next to the 1N581x parts: the 100V SS310 leaks in the 100uA class where the lower-voltage 1N581x family leaks milliamps - in battery or standby rails that difference decides the design.
- Forward drop runs the other way: about 0.85V at 3A against roughly 0.5-0.6V for the low-voltage Schottkys. Choose by which side of the trade the circuit is on - conduction loss or leakage loss.
- The same die ships in SMA, SMB and SMC - the SS36/SS38/SS310 naming does not encode package. Check the footprint on the board before ordering by part number alone.
- The trailing digits are the voltage grade (SS36 = 60V, SS38 = 80V, SS310 = 100V). Within the family, grade up for margin; the cost of grading up is a slightly worse forward drop.
- 100V is near the practical ceiling for silicon Schottky: for higher-voltage rails the honest move is the ultrafast PN family (US-series class), not a hopeful Schottky.
- As with every Schottky, reverse recovery is negligible by physics - the watch items are VF at the working current and package thermal behavior, not speed.
Frequently Asked Technical Questions
Q: Is SR310 the same as SS310?
A: Functionally the same 100V / 3A Schottky class under different fab naming traditions. When crossing the names, compare VF and leakage on the actual datasheets; when the part sits in a battery or standby rail, leakage is the number to compare.
Q: Can SS310 replace a 1N5819?
A: Electrically yes in most rectification and protection positions - both are Schottky. The trade: the SS310 gives three times the voltage margin and far lower leakage, at a higher forward drop (about 0.85V against 0.6V at 3A versus 1A). Check the dissipation if the circuit ran near its thermal limit.
Q: Why is the SS310 forward drop higher than a 1N5817?
A: Voltage rating costs forward drop in Schottky silicon: the higher the reverse rating, the more the VF rises. That is why the 20V 1N5817 shows about 0.45V and the 100V SS310 about 0.85V at rated current - and why the correct grade is the lowest one the rail allows.
