The 1N6270A-E3/54: 7.78V reverse standoff (typ) is the voltage the TVS presents to the line in normal operation — it must sit above the maximum working voltage of the protected circuit to avoid leakage clipping in normal state. 8.65V minimum breakdown voltage marks where the device begins to conduct — above this threshold the clamping characteristic takes over, clamping at 13.4V when 112A flows through the part. The unidirectional configuration (one channel) means this part protects a single polarity bus — it clamps positive transients to ground and does not conduct in the reverse direction during normal operation.
Thermal margin and package for hostile deployment
-55°C to 175°C junction temperature range puts this in the high-temperature semiconductor band — the upper limit is junction, not ambient, so a TO-27 axial body with adequate board spacing and airflow keeps the die below the 175°C ceiling even in confined enclosures or near heat sources.
