What the 1.5KE series does in a circuit
The 1N6268-E3/73: The 1N6268-/73 is a unidirectional TVS diode — Vishay calls the series TransZorb®, which is their TVS branding applied to Zener-based avalanche suppression. At 6.05V reverse standoff (typ), the device sits below the breakdown threshold during normal operation; when a transient exceeds 6.75V minimum breakdown, the diode clamps the voltage to 11.7V maximum at 128A peak pulse current, protecting whatever load sits behind it. The 1500W peak pulse rating (10/1000 µs waveform) means it survives a single-event transient of that energy without degradation — the 128A peak current figure tells you how much charge the clamping node must handle at the defined pulse width.
Thermal and packaging reality
In practice, clamping a 1.5kW transient raises the junction temperature significantly, so the leads and board pad area must carry heat away. The axial form factor gives you a longer thermal path to the board than a surface-mount part; lead length and pad design matter for repeatability.
