The 1.5SMC9.1CAHM3/I is a bidirectional TransZorb® TVS Zener — a clamp-type transient voltage suppressor rated to absorb 1500 W peak pulse (10/1000 µs waveform) without degradation. That 1.5 kW ceiling means the part survives load-dump and inductive kickback transients common in automotive 12 V power rails, not just the sub-100 W spikes a lower-rated part would handle.

Clamping chain: standoff, breakdown, and the clamping ceiling

Reverse standoff voltage is 7.78 V typ — the part sits idle on the line at normal operating conditions. The gap between 7.78 V standoff and 13.4 V clamping ceiling defines the headroom the protected load sees — a microcontroller or CAN transceiver running at 5 V rail sits comfortably inside it. That simplifies the layout: one device protects the power rail and the signal return simultaneously.

Automotive grade: AEC-Q101 at 150°C junction

AEC-Q101 qualification means the part passed the automotive stress suite — humidity, temperature cycling, and surge testing at the component level. Surface-mount DO-214AB (SMC) footprint is compatible with standard reflow assembly — no through-hole hand-soldering required. The Tape & Reel packaging suits high-volume pick-and-place lines.
