Product details

The 1.5SMC8.2A-E3/57T: Rated 1500W peak pulse (10/1000 µs waveform), the 1.5SMC8.2A-/57T survives a single-event transient delivering up to 124A through the clamp without degradation to the standoff voltage spec — that is the SOA the clamping MOSFET or upstream regulator must tolerate while the TVS does the crowbar work. The clamping voltage ceiling of 12.1V at peak pulse current is what the downstream circuit sees, so the protected rail must tolerate a 12.1V spike riding on top of the nominal rail before the TVS turns on at 7.79V minimum breakdown. The reverse standoff of 7.02V typ is the working voltage below which the TVS appears high-impedance — the protected rail sits cleanly below breakdown in normal operation. This makes it suited for 5V and 6V nominal rails that need headroom to 7V without false triggering.

Frequently asked questions

What TVS family does the 1.5SMC8.2A-/57T belong to, and what does TransZorb mean?

It is part of the 1.5SMC series using Vishay's TransZorb® construction — a glass-passivated junction TVS designed for unidirectional transient clamping. The TransZorb construction gives repeatable breakdown voltage and low leakage current compared to a plain Zener, making it the right choice when you need guaranteed clamping performance rather than just voltage regulation.
