Clamping parameters and derating
Rated 1500W at 25°C ambient with a 10/1000µs waveform — derate linearly to zero at 150°C junction. In a 85°C under-hood environment, the derating factor is roughly 60%, so the effective pulse-handling capacity drops to about 900W. Unidirectional (single-channel) Zener construction — the cathode is the tab side of the SMC package. This is the right polarity for positive-rail clamping; for bidirectional or AC-coupled lines, a different variant in the 1.5SMC family would be needed.
