Transient suppression for 33.3 V rails

The 1.5SMC39CA-M3/57T: It clamps a 33.3 V nominal rail — the reverse standoff voltage — at 53.9 V max when hit with a 27.8 A peak pulse current, which is the current that drives the clamping to that limit.

The 33.3 V standoff means this diode will not conduct at the rail voltage — it sits across the line and only starts to avalanche when the transient exceeds the minimum breakdown voltage of 37.1 V. The 53.9 V clamp is the ceiling: downstream components rated for at least that peak voltage survive the surge. The bidirectional channel means one part covers both polarities — no need to orient the diode on the board, which simplifies pick-and-place and reduces BOM line count.

The copper pad area under the cathode tab sets the thermal resistance — for a 1500 W pulse, the board's copper plane acts as the heat sink.
