1.5kW bidirectional TVS for automotive and telecom bus protection
The 1.5SMC22CAHM3_A/I: It clamps transients at 30.6 V maximum and has a reverse standoff voltage of 18.8 V, making it suited for protecting 18 V nominal rails in automotive and telecom equipment.
Voltage ratings and clamping performance
The 18.8 V reverse standoff voltage defines the maximum DC or peak-AC voltage the protected line can carry without the diode conducting. Breakdown occurs at a minimum of 20.9 V, and the clamping voltage is 30.6 V at the rated 49 A peak pulse current. The 11.8 V gap between standoff and clamp gives the designer headroom to absorb transients without exceeding the downstream IC's abs-max rating.
Supplied in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, a standard surface-mount footprint with a large copper pad on the bottom for heat sinking. The 1500 W rating assumes the PCB copper area specified in the datasheet's thermal model — a smaller pad raises the junction temperature and derates the peak pulse capability. Tape & Reel packaging suits automated pick-and-place assembly.
The 1.5SMC series includes multiple voltage variants; a BOM change to a different standoff voltage would require re-evaluation of the protected rail's transient immunity.
