TVS clamping and AEC-Q101 qualification for 24V automotive buses
The 1.5SMC200CAHM3/I: Its 171V reverse standoff voltage suits it for protecting 24V nominal buses where the steady-state rail may reach 170V during load-dump or alternator surge events. The 190V minimum breakdown voltage ensures the junction avalanches reliably before the voltage exceeds the downstream IC's abs-max rating. It is a single-die, bidirectional device — one component protects both polarities on a floating or differential line, saving board space versus two unidirectional diodes back-to-back.
Package and thermal integration for DO-214AB SMC
Housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, the 1.5SMC200CAHM3/I reflows onto standard PCB pads with a 3.0mm × 2.6mm footprint. The junction operates from -65°C to 150°C, covering the under-hood temperature envelope where the ambient may reach 125°C and the self-heating from a single pulse adds another 25°C of margin. The SMC body is larger than the smaller SMA/SMB packages, giving it a lower thermal resistance to the board copper. A 1oz copper pad under the cathode tab keeps the junction temperature rise below the 150°C limit during the 10/1000µs pulse.
