Clamping voltage and pulse current — what they mean for your rail

With a 274 V maximum clamping voltage at the 5.5 A peak pulse current, this diode limits transients on a 171 V bus to a level that downstream semiconductors rated for 300 V can survive. The unidirectional Zener construction (single channel) means the cathode is the protected rail; the anode connects to ground.
