Transient suppression for 145V DC rails
The Vishay 1.5SMC170A-M3/9AT is a 1500W peak pulse power Zener TVS diode in the TransZorb® 1.5SMC series, designed to clamp transients on DC power rails up to 145V reverse standoff voltage. With a breakdown voltage of 162V minimum and a clamping voltage of 234V at a peak pulse current of 6.4A (10/1000µs waveform), it protects downstream semiconductors from voltage spikes in telecom rectifiers, industrial power supplies, and battery-charger outputs.
Clamping voltage and pulse current — the protection envelope
The 234V maximum clamping voltage at 6.4A peak pulse current defines the let-through voltage the protected circuit must survive. For a 145V nominal rail, the 162V minimum breakdown provides margin above the operating voltage to avoid nuisance triggering during normal ripple or turn-on surges. The single unidirectional channel is suited for DC rails where polarity is fixed; for AC or bidirectional lines, two devices or a bidirectional variant would be needed.
DO-214AB surface-mount footprint and reflow integration
Housed in the DO-214AB (SMC) package, the device occupies a standard surface-mount footprint compatible with lead-free reflow profiles. The supplier device package is also designated DO-214AB (SMCJ), ensuring interchangeability with industry-standard SMC footprints for TVS diodes in this power class. The 1500W pulse rating must be derated at elevated temperatures per the manufacturer's power derating curve in the datasheet.
Active production — sourcing posture for BOM integration
The Tape & Reel packaging (TR suffix) is the standard supply form for automated pick-and-place assembly lines.
