Transient protection for 12V automotive rails
The 1.5SMC15CAHE3/9AT: It carries AEC-Q101 automotive qualification, making it suitable for transient suppression on 12V power buses in engine control units, body controllers, and infotainment systems where the operating temperature spans -65°C to 150°C junction.
When a transient exceeds the 14.3V minimum breakdown voltage, the device clamps the surge to 21.2V maximum while shunting up to 70.8A of peak pulse current (10/1000µs waveform), protecting downstream electronics from overvoltage damage.
Housed in a DO-214AB (SMC) surface-mount package, also designated SMCJ, the device measures approximately 7.1mm x 6.2mm with a 2.6mm seated height — the standard SMC footprint on a 2oz copper board handles the thermal dissipation from a single surge without additional heatsinking. The bidirectional channel (single device) protects against both positive and negative transients on the same line, eliminating the need for two back-to-back unidirectional TVS diodes and saving board space.
